an astonishing 65% of these residents back home!
Whether it has been from an injury or illness such as a stroke, broken hip, heart or pulmonary condition, most new residents
have a newly acquired disability that may prevent them from being able to return to the home or setting they were used to.
This is where Applewood steps in and helps.
Your family member participates in a therapy program that has been tailor made to improve their functional abilities.
Physical therapy that helps them regain balance and mobility, occupational therapy to increase strength and the ability to
dress and feed oneself, speech therapy to improve swallowing and communication skills. Our highly skilled board certified
therapists are a key element in the development of a personal program for each resident.
As your family member "works out" in our high tech rehab gym on a daily basis, and they steadily improve, it is now time
to progress to our Activities of Daily Living suite to practice actual activities for "at home' living/ The practice studio
apartment includes many of the amentities of home: a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. Here the therapist and your resident will
perform many of the activities that your resident will encounter at home, trying out these functions in a safe environment
under supervision. The therapist will foster as much independence as possible for your family member.
Roughly, two thirds of these new residents are able to return home and function safely THERE, because our therapists
fostered their care and independence HERE.
