FAQ

OUR MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do you offer Physical Therapy? My mother is going to need therapy for her hip, so that she can get around again.
A: Yes. We have Physical, occupational, and Speech Therapists available to provide the professional services that your mother may need.

Q: Do you have physicians on staff, or do I have to find one who will care for my father?
A: We have several physicians who are assigned to our residents on admission, and who visit our residents on a regualr basis. If, however, you or your resident prefers to have another physician, we can make special arrangements with that physician to come here for the resident's care.

Q: Can my aunt have her own telephone and T.V.?
A: Yes; we encourage our residents to have as much access to friends and the current world as feasible. Families are given information and asked to make individual arrangements with the telephone and cable companies for these services.

Q: How many personal belongings can we provide for my mother's comfort?
A: Because this is home, we want each resident to have those things that are important to them. The limiting factor, of course is space. However, as you tour our facility, you will get an idea about what would fit and what you would like to bring from home.

Q: We would like to take my uncle out occansionally to visit with his nieces and nephews, is this allowed?
A: Certainly! It is always a wonderful opportunity for our residents, when they can visit in the community with their relatives. Just let the nursing staff know of your plans and they will help you.

Q: My brother is on a special diet, and besides, he is a "picky" eater.  How can we be sure that he will get adequate nourishment?
A: We have nutrition experts on staff who will regularly monitor his nutritional status.  They will work with your brother to determine his likes and dislikes in combination with his special diet.  Our dietary staff will then provide tasty meals to his liking.  We may want to enlist your help to encourage your brother along the way.  Special diets are sometimes difficult to swallow (ho, ho.ho).

Q: My sister is devoutly religous and will need oppurtunities to pray.  Do you have church services offered at Applewood?
A: Yes, we have several different churches, whose lay volunteers, priests, and ministers come to offer services at Applewood on a regualr basis.  In addition, we would encourage your sister's church representative come, as well.

Q: My mother is a VERY private person, and will probably not want to eat or participate with other residents.  Will she be able to eat in her room, if she chooses, and will she we encourages to join other activities?
A: We respect our residents need for privacy, and if your mother needs to eat in her room, that is where we will serve her.  We have found, that as residents become accustomed to Applewood and the people around them, they can be gently encouraged to join others in activities and meals.  Frequently, it is the other residents who will seek out a quieter person to invite them along.

Q: Can my husband keep money in his room, "just in case" he may need something?
A: We do not encourage residents to keep money in their possesion.  However, you can open a "Trust Account" in our business office, where he can withdraw money for those special outings or frequent trips to our gift shop and ice cream parlor!

Q:  Will Medicare pay for my dad's nursing home stay?
A: Probably not.  Medicare will cover those skilled services that are certified and provided in a Skilled Nursing Facility when you meet certain conditions.  These services include skilled nursing care and/or skilled rehabilitation services.  Generally, skilled care is available only for a short time; and basic care may be needed for a much longer period.  Medicare will not cover basic care.  Come visit us at Applewood and sit down with our experts for advice and help.
